Description

A hearty sliced steak dinner with mashed potatoes, green beans, and creamed spinach.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds steak (ribeye, sirloin, or New York strip)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 ounces fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup creamed spinach
  • 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard

Instructions

  1. Pat the steak dry with paper towels.
  2. Season both sides of the steak with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the chopped potatoes and cook for 15–18 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  4. Drain the potatoes, then mash with milk, butter, salt, and black pepper until creamy. Set aside and keep warm.
  5. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Add the steak and sear for 3–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness and desired doneness.
  7. Add the butter and smashed garlic to the skillet. Spoon the melted garlic butter over the steak for 1–2 minutes.
  8. Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let it rest for 8–10 minutes before slicing.
  9. While the steak rests, heat olive oil in another skillet over medium heat.
  10. Add the green beans, garlic, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring often, until bright green and tender-crisp.
  11. Warm the creamed spinach in a small saucepan or microwave until hot.
  12. Slice the steak against the grain into thick strips.
  13. Serve the sliced steak with mashed potatoes, green beans, creamed spinach, and whole grain mustard.

Notes

  • Let the steak rest before slicing for juicier results.
  • Adjust cooking time for steak based on thickness.
  • Use fresh green beans for best texture.
