Description
A gooey chocolate dessert that bakes into a cake with a self-saucing hot fudge bottom.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups hot water (or hot coffee for deeper chocolate flavor)
- Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Spread batter evenly in the baking dish.
- In a small bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Sprinkle evenly over the batter (do not stir). Add chocolate chips if using.
- Slowly pour the hot water (or hot coffee) evenly over the top (do not stir).
- Bake 25–30 minutes, until the top looks set and crackly but a thick chocolate sauce forms underneath.
- Cool 5 minutes. Spoon into bowls so you get cake + gooey hot fudge sauce. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.
Notes
- Best served warm with vanilla ice cream.
- Cover and refrigerate up to 3 days.
- Reheat in microwave for 25–35 seconds (add a splash of milk/cream if needed).
